What Would You Resign Over?

Friday’s Wall Street Journal had an article, “What Would ______ Die For?” The blank was the name of a politician. I am not linking to the article because it is really not the point. It did get me thinking however.

I would like to publish a Top Ten List of “Things That HR Pros Should Resign Over”

I think that there are events which happen that HR, needs to quit over. I have had a couple over the years. What is your list? Please make them realistic, unless you are the head of HR for the mob, let’s not use things like murdering people. Include things that have come close, or should have, or things that really happen to others.

Send me an email with your entry and indicate whether or not you want to be named or not.

  1. Here’s mine: If you’re the person who designs pay programs that encourage SUPER bad short-term behavior to get “long-term incentives” like what happened Countrywide, etc, you should go away. You should not only go away, but you should be ashamed that you let your fiduciary responsibility get besmirched by greed. Wear a celice. Feel really bad that you encouraged bad behavior. And ask yourself what you did to make things jump off the tracks.

Bill, that’s my take. I don’t mind people making tons of money…fairly. Make it right…but people making money nefariously…that makes me want to puke. I know there’s no way to make a clawback, but I swear, LT money should be held in a trust for some period…and if it’s shown that it was ill-gotten gains, then too bad, so sad, that money’s going back to the shareholders.
